This release fixes the “Button mode” (US/JP) bug in 3.5.40 reported by several users. The bug caused the emulator to start in US button mode, even when Japan mode was selected.
If you always use US mode, you do not need to download this version.

It’s been almost two years since fMSX PSP last saw an update, so today seems as good a day as any to release an updated version. New in this release:
This release also significantly improves the save state format by adding versioning, and automatically switching the emulated machine to the system specs appropriate for the save state (no more cryptic state loading errors). To clarify, say you save a game in MSX1 mode, then switch to MSX2. In earlier versions of the emulator, unless you switched back to MSX1 prior to loading state, state would refuse to load. If you changed other features, such as memory sizes and video mode (NTSC/PAL), you would have to remember the specific setup for the game, or the game would not load. In 3.5.40, save state format includes all the necessary system data, and will automatically switch to the appropriate setup. This is the normal behavior in most other computer emulators, such as Fuse and VICE.
That said, please note that only new states will benefit from this – while fMSX PSP is backwards compatible, previously saved states will only load if you restore system setup prior to loading, as before. Of course, if you never switch from the usual setup (MSX2, 128kB, NTSC), this whole discussion is probably moot
The very much real Spark is now out. You can find it at its official website, as well as on Android Market (link is Android browser-specific). Here’s the complete feature list:
The application is free.
gsDroid 1.05 has been released. This update fixes @msn.com logins, which up to now have not been working. Special thanks to those that helped me troubleshoot the issue (emails to the dev are always more productive than negative reviews on Android Marketplace!
)
In PSP news, work on fMSX PSP continues; I am in the process of updating the save state format.
Almost two years after the last release, Atari800 PSP sees another update today. New in version 2.1.0.1:
This is a bugfix release, fixing two issues in version 2.1.2:
Please note that any existing NTSC save states you may have from 2.1.2 may still crash the emulator – if that happens, delete the save state.
A new version of VICE PSP is now out. New in this version:
UPDATE Saving in NTSC mode will currently crash the emulator. This should be fixed shortly (UPDATE fixed)
VICE PSP is now out. The sound lag seems to be fixed; however there are some issues: for one, the FPS counter sometimes reports incorrect data after frame skipping goes into effect (showing 4 FPS, when the emulator’s actually rendering at 50), and annoying stuttering noise while frames are being skipped.
I would like the sound engine to be more polished prior to release, but I’ve only had a few hours to work in the last two weeks (not likely to improve any time soon), and I feel like it’s in a suitable enough state.
VICE is a series of Commodore emulators; for now, I’ve only ported the C64 emulator. I’ve wanted to port a C64 emulator for a while now; as a fan of chiptunes/demoscene music (I recommend Kohina, by the way), I’m familiar with the popular SID chip that gave talented musicians like Martin Galway, Rob Hubbard and Ben Daglish an outlet to produce some of the most brilliant sets of bleeps and bloops to grace one’s ears.
Now it’s almost 4 AM, and I should probably turn in.
New in this version:
There is a pattern here – a lot of tape-related updates in this release. Enjoy!
A new version of Fuse PSP is now out. Changes include:
What’s new in Fuse 0.10.0.2 and libspectrum 0.5.0.1 (as relevant to the PSP port):
Two issues require further discussion: bugs were reported related to a) absence of a “Gluk” boot menu when loading certain files (the menu does appear in pre-0.10 Fuse PSP), and b) intermittent, but common issues when loading consecutive disk images (the disk image will load the first time, not load the second time, may load the third time – or not). Both issues seem to be related to Fuse 0.10, and not just the PSP port, as I get the same behavior in the Linux (Ubuntu) version of the emulator. The issue may be related to configuration, in which case, if you know a workaround/fix, please notify me.
UPDATE Many thanks to Carl Murray and Fred of worldofspectrum forums for the following clarifications: the “Gluk” boot menu has been removed from Pentagon 128K, and moved into Pentagon 512K and 1024K. To use the menu, switch the machine type to either of the two systems mentioned.
