This is a bugfix release, fixing two issues in version 2.1.2:
- Bugfix: Saving state while in NTSC mode resulted in a crash
- Bugfix: An extra line from the screen border appeared while in NTSC mode
Please note that any existing NTSC save states you may have from 2.1.2 may still crash the emulator – if that happens, delete the save state.
Nice one! Works great now. Thanks!
Thanks a lot !
Time to dust off my psp =)
Great stuff, thanks for this!
Are you planning on being able to facilitate loading of the GB64 zip files like the other version of Vice? Saves loads of space on the card and would be excellent!
It’s been a popular request, so it’s possible it’ll be added at some point in the future.
A great update, your usual pristine job, thanks. Which means I’ll waste even more time playing old games…
Hi!
I tested the version where you enabled the loading of .prg files. Runs good and is faster than the old PSPVice (not your release, the other one
).
Now, the on screen keyboard seems to behave strange. I use it in toggle mode and when i turn the keyboard on, i can t turn it off. Only when i go to the menu.
And i think, the design of the keyboard could be nicer – perhaps a bit smaller? Or 2 sizes to choose where one is very small and can be placed on the bottom that you can type and see the full screen (it would appear in the frame). And how about using the C64 Font? Just some ideas
Greetings
Tobias
Here an idea how a small c64 keyboard could look like: http://www.tobiks.de/c64keyIdea.gif

I’ve not seen that problem – what games does it do it in, is VICE PSP in PAL/NTSC etc mode, is the screen set to 4:3/streched etc mode, is the border on or off, and so on?
Hi!
Ok, just tested it. The video mode does not have an effect on that. But i configured the keyboard to a different key (triangle) and here it does not work. But when i reconfigure it to the Left Shoulder button, it works. The Keyboard flashes a bit btw.
Which is the right key to type with the keyboard? I have to use the square, not the cross (it was a bit iritating to me)
Greetings
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
It’s probably because TRIANGLE, CIRCLE, and SQUARE perform specific functions for the virtual keyboard, so they will not respond. Generally, I’d recommend not using the four primary buttons to bring up the VK.
I’ve regretted the decision to use SQUARE to press buttons, but since all of my VK-based emulators use this combination, I’ve kept it. If enough people request it, I will remap the buttons to CROSS (to press), SQUARE (to stick), and CIRCLE (to unstick all) – with CIRCLE and CROSS functions reversed on Japanese-based configurations. That would be the ideal configuration, given the PSP’s expected UI rules.
I forgot… The game was boulder dash 1.

Personally, I’d rather use CROSS than SQUARE to press the “keyboard” buttons, and I think that the setup you suggest (CROSS, SQUARE and CIRCLE) sounds great, and I’d prefer it if you did remap them that way, but why not have a setting in the emulator for the user to choose between the current (SQUARE, CIRCLE, TRIANGLE) way and the new way (CROSS, SQUARE, CIRCLE)? That way the user could choose their favourite system for themselves.
Hi.Sorry for bad english.
I have more sound lag with shadow of the beast cartridge when the beast run. This is a game with parallax scrolling . Is possible to correct the sound ?
Offtopic:
Is possible to make Atari ST emulator?
Is it just the sound that lags, or everything (including video)? If it’s just the sound, does the lag fix itself if you exit to VICE PSP menu (by pressing L+R), then get back into the game?
As for the other question, I have no current plans for any other emulators.
The Sound lag not disappear with L+R menu or with 333 speed
When the character does not move the music is ok. But when the character run I have more Music lag
and also in the intro. (I have Psp Fat -This is a problem ?)
Music intro example: This with normal music

Have you tried increasing the PSP’s CPU speed? Some games need 266 or 300 speed for sound to be good.

Have you tried Castaway? It’s a great emulator (from http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=79437 ) although it does lack some features (including the ability to map a PSP control to an Atari ST key, surprisingly, meaning that some games cannot comfortably be played). Aakop’s usual magic (fully mappable controls, ten user save slots, emulator configuration options – in this case the ability to choose the version of TOS, the memory size, etc) would be great, but I think he does have enough to do at the moment with the ten or so emulators he’s ported.
It’s a pity, but I think he probably has a real life to contend with ;o)
Yes I know and use Castaway but with Aakop’s style would be great (Sorry for bad english)
and Atari St have very good games .(I hope in a future emulator ……..)
Please port a CaSTaway/Hatari combo Akop, Skeezix effort has a woeful GUI and poor sound emulation.
This new update is wonderful. Loading PRG files works like a dream.
Very happy with this emu in general. Gamebase64 support would be the icing on the cake. Also the fake stereo SID on the other Vice psp emu is nice too
And yes Gamebase 64 support would really make me only use this C64 emulator on my PSP
your PSP-C64 emulator is really a great work and i apprechiate it, indeed it’s faster than the previous psp-vice, no slowdowns with games like Zolix Frantic Freddie or others, and i only can say “thank you” for your great work …
… if you want to hear a couple of suggestions:
1) add a psp key-combination to swap joystick from port-1 to port-2 and vice versa
2) add shortcuts in the menu to write the most used c64 commands like [load"$",8,1] or [list] or [load"*"]
Hello,
First off, MANY THANKS for the emulator. I love the game compatibility. I agree with the previous post, swap joysticks as a special: function would be handy.
Perhaps another useful feature would be drive speedup, or is that covered in true drive emulation disabled?
I played Labyrinth, and every time disk loading takes place, my speakers make a buzzing sound. I have true drive emulation on. I’m not sure if it is just this game, but it’s annoying. Lode Runner did it too, but to a lesser extent.
Thanks for this fine emulator, it’s already my favorite!
Cheers
Wow, what a grrreat emulator-port! I couldn’t believe my eyes. I love the smooth and beautiful design and handy functions. Running C64 games on a handheld like this has been a dream for me for a long time. There are so many great games for the C64. Currently playing Last Ninja 3, it runs smoothly, and I’m loving it! Thanks so much Akop for putting together this brilliant PSP-port!
Will there be more updates for vice psp? Especially an improved sound-emulation and keyboard.
Would be great and would make that fantastic emulator nerly perfect!
Today i’ve notice, that there were some games (Maniac Manson & Zak McKracken) which won’t run as zip-file but only unpacked. Is there a bug in the depack routine?
And btw: Please add something like “make select crt as standart” to avoid manually select a cartridge each time.
Thank you so much for this great piece of software. i have a bug report: the game “green beret” ( http://c64games.de/phpseiten/spieledetail.php?filnummer=66 ) runs toooo slow!!
Hey I have a little feature request should you decide to update the emulator.
When browsing folders I think it would be really great if when you go “up” a directory level the file browser selector could rest on the folder you just left. I am going through the Digital Dungeon demo collection which has A-Z folders, then group names, and then releases. Sometimes there are 50 of so groups in a lettered folder. Currently if I go up a level the filebrowser rests at the top of the parent folder and I would prefer it if it showed the folder I have just come out of.
Absolutely loving the emulator still. Thanks for all your work.
fist 2 – the legend continues is only playable at 80% speed. perhaps you can fix it if u plan 2 release a new version. thanks so much for vice psp!!
http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=96067
please make it run
also: sorry for the double post
